UKRAINE: "White Media" to produce youth content for "MUZ TV"

Group of companies "White Media" announced that they will continue cooperation with "Muz-TV" TV channel for the production of entertainment content for 11-34 years old audiences and will start production in the next issue of the daily entertainment program, "Russian Sex-battle", "Conveyor of Love" and "Cosmetic repairs" reported its press-service company.

RUSSIA: A new city TV channel will be launched in Moscow this Fall

The 24 hours news channel, created at the initiative of Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, will promptly tell the Muscovites on city events, inform the viewers about traffic jams and weather in different parts of Moscow.

The necessity to create a new channel comes from the fact that the Moscow authorities are not satisfied with the level and ratings of the existing city's channels:  The Capital (Stolitza) and Trust TV (Doverije). The head of the Moscow Department of Media and Advertising, Vladimir Chernikov, in his interview with Rossiyskaya Gazeta said that the alternative TV channel will be presented for City Day, which this year will be celebrated on September 3, 2011.

RUSSIA : NMG holding takes over REN TV channel

National Media Group holding, controlled by the shareholders of the  bank "Russia," headed by businessman Yuri Kovalchuk, became the sole  owner of television channel REN TV, increasing its stake in the company to almost 100%. The holding signed an agreement with the European media conglomerates RTL Group to exchange European concern owned 30% stake in REN TV on 7,5% stake in National Media Group (NMG).

Earlier some media reported that RTL Group bought 30% of REN TV in 2005 from Irena and Dmitry Lesnevsky for 67 million euros  to leave Russia. In April last year, concern has concluded an option agreement with NMG, for which RTL might sell its 30% to be redeemed by  NMG.

RUSSIA: JCTV channel goes satellite

The Board of the «Russian Broadcasting Network» media holding announced that the company is fully prepared to run a round o'clock TV channel for the young people audience in Russia - «JCTV». It will be carried on the satellite Hot Bird 8 (13E) from which the broadcaster already transmits the following channels:  Russian Public TV Channel "TBN-Russia" and a children themed TV channel - "Smile of a Child".

UKRAINE: Mr. Kolesnikov launches "Ice Hockey" TV channel

The National Council for Radio and Television, at the June 1 meeting, decided to issue licenses for satellite broadcasting LLC Totveld which intends to broadcast under the "Hockey" logo.

The Deputy Prime Minister -  Borys Kolesnikov - 100% owner of a Donetsk hockey club "Donbass" was identified as the founder and owner of the channel, which plans to start broadcasting in January - February 2012 through Astra 1G satellite ("Ukrkosmos").

RUSSIA: Russia is to introduce an age classification of films

Russia is to introduce an age classification of films.

According to RIA Novosti, earlier recommendations for age restrictions were introduced into the Mill's License (rating system), but they did not have a binding nature. The announced bill will make the procedure mandatory. As expected, the Ministry of Culture will be in charge of the classification by age for the films.

In addition, the Ministry of Culture is supposed to have the right to refuse to grant a Mill Certificate in cases where the film will promote terrorism, extremism, cruelty, violence or drug use.

UKRAINE: The first two companies in Ukraine have been given ‘free from pirated goods’ status

As reported by the Film.ua press office, two Ukrainian companies -Digital Cinema Ukraine and PostModern – for the first time have been audited and certified by the Content Delivery & Storage Association (CDSA).

"According to experts, the loss of world cinema producers because of the piracy for the year are estimated, on average, several billion dollars. Ukraine also is among the leaders of the pirate hit parade " says Yegor Olesov, CEO PostModern.   “Until this situation is not  globally changed the attitude of the world major film producers to us  will not change neither. "

DCU - a young company with the experience both in film manufacturing and system integration for film studios and cinemas. It is also known as Ukraine's first digital lab.

RUSSIA/UKRAINE: New Jewish channel to be launched in June

The "JewishNewsOne" TV channel will start to broadcast at the end of June in a test mode.

The National Council on Television and Radio, at the meeting on May 24, issued a license to broadcast satellite TV "JewishNewsOne" - an information channel for and about the Jewish community.


According to the Head of Legal Department, Maria Shvets, JewishNewsOne will begin test broadcasting 15-20 June. The company of Vadim Rabinovitch plans to get two licenses: the territory of Ukraine and other countries within range of reliable reception of the satellite Astra 4A (broadcast in Ukrainian language) and foreign broadcasts.

The Ukrainian version of JewishNewsOne will broadcast around the clock, 75% - in Ukrainian, 25% - in English with translation into Ukrainian in the running line. The TV channel will have offices in Kiev (31 employees), Brussels (8 employees) and Tel Aviv (8 employees). It will broadcast the news and in-house programs, including social topics on the life of the Jewish community.

RUSSIA: Akado out of crisis

The group of companies Akado showed in 2010 revenue growth of 19% (10.6 billion rubles). On the results of the 1st quarter 2011 revenues totaled 2.5 billion rubles, an increase of 4% over the same period last year. Subscriber base grew for the year by an average of 8-10% depending on segments of the market (broadband and TV). This year, the operator intends to return to its pre-crisis plans for market expansion.

UKRAINE: Ukraine and France will sign an agreement on joint film production

The Minister of Culture of Ukraine, Mikhail Kulinyak and his French counterpart, Frederic Mitterrand, will sign a 2 year agreement on joint film production between Ukraine and France during the Cannes festival, said the head of the State Agency for Cinematography Catherine Kopilova. The signing will take place May 14 in Cannes.

CROATIA: MAXtv is still among the most successful IPTV platforms in South-eastern Europe

T-Croatian Telecom  IPTV platform MAXtv continue to grow strongly and ended the first quarter of 2011 with an impressive 317 000 users. Of these 299 000 are residential users, while the remaining 18 000 are business customers.

T-HT has maintained a leading position in all three markets (mobile, fixed telephony and IPTV) and the number of mobile subscribers increased by about 7.9%. CZECH REPUBLIC: Metropol TV starts broadcasting

On May 1, 2011 shortly after noon, a new digital TV station began broadcasting Prague - Metropol TV.  Broadcast viewers can tune in for example the DVB-T multiplex 4, which is operated by Telefonica. The project is from the founders of music TV Ocko George Nemecek and former reporter Mark Vitek.

UZBEKISTAN: UNESCO has recognized TV Reporters of Uzbekistan as the best in Eastern Europe and CIS

At the international contest of children's shows in New York, conducted by UNESCO, TV Studio "Yangi Avlod" (Uzbek "UzNTT" network, which brings together about 30 private TV channels) was recognized as the best among the countries of Eastern Europe and CIS.

Note that 196 countries participated in this competition. Uzbekistan presented the video about contest of children's telethon held in March this year in Tashkent in celebration of international day of children's television and radio broadcasting, "the name of a happy childhood." This significant date is celebrated each year since April 1994, on the first Sunday of March at the initiative of UNICEF. On this day the MEDIA around the world focus their attention on programs for children and about children.

According to the organizers, Uzbek video won the award due to a high level and interesting content of television program that reflect the major changes in childhood education, health development, sport and culture of Uzbekistan.

RUSSIA: Mosfilm launched its YouTube channel

Russian Cinema Concern Mosfilm opened its own channel on the Google-owned video sharing YouTube. At http://www.youtube.com/mosfilm about 50 films from 1930's to early 2000's, can be seen until and among them "Jolly Fellows" ("Veselye Rebyata"), " "Irony of Fate " ("Ironiya Sudby"), "Andrei Rublev", "The Mirror" ("Zerkalo") and others.

About a year ago Mosfilm had already launched a network of online cinema at www.cinema.mosfilm.ru where registered users could watch a movie at one of two "virtual cinemas." Some of Concern movies were broadcasted for free but the visitors did not have the possibility to choose films and had to follow the website announcements.

Now they can do it on the Mosfilm's YouTube channel where around two hundred popular films will be lined up in high definition before the end of the year as reported by the Russian office of Google and the Concern.

BALKANS: Viasat Nature HD is testing in Croatian, Slovenian and Serbian language

Media group MTG (Modern Times Group) has started to test its new high-definition channels in HD Viasat Nature which broadcasts quality and award-winning documentaries and series dedicated to the world of nature, wildlife and wilderness.  The channel also tested on a dozen other Central and Eastern European languages.

UKRAINE: Two new documentaries narrate the history of the Ukrainian capital

CZECH REPUBLIC: Advertising market is getting recovered from the economic crisis

Advertising via TV channels and Internet have become the most important for the marketers in the Czech Republic - confirms the company Admosphere.

Speaking about television sector,  the companies spent 0.41 billion CZK more in advertising via TV Channels in the first quarter of  this year  than in 2010 for the same period. In the same time the rates for the advertising space of most of the TV channels decreased or maintained at the same level. Only Barrandov TV, CT4, CT24 and PRIMA TV reviewed their price list for increases (46%, 33%, 15% and 11% respectively).

RUSSIA: O2TV increased its coverage by 62.7% compared to the same period in 2010

In the first quarter of 2011 channel "O2TV increased its coverage by 62.7% compared to the same period in 2010 and its subscribers database grew up to 4.393 million.  According to the results on March 31, 2011, channel "O2TV" can be viewed in 73 Russian regions in 247 cities across Russia, including Moscow and all cities with populations over 1 million people. 

Only in Moscow its number of subscribers grew by 22% from January to March 2011 and counts 554.34 thousand subscribers.

CROATIA : New video portal in Croatia

EPH, in collaboration with its partners, is launching a new multimedia web portal called WPN in Croatia. This service allows for viewing TV channels, videoclips and localy produced content provided by TV channels and TV producer such as KlasikTV, MTV, CMC, JutarnjiTV, Transmeet TV, Xstream, DSLR channel and Fashion.hr.  Initially, the service is supposed to be free of charge, pay-tv services will be developed later.

WPN.tv is the first Croatian Web-TV platform and expected to be launched in early April.
